Toende Rural Bank makes GH¢261,355.00 profit in 2018

 The Toende Rural Bank  at Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region has recorded a profit before tax of GH¢261,355.00  in 2018.

This represents 464.05 percentage increase from the previous year’s amount of GH¢56,320.00.

The bank also ended the year with a capital of GH¢1,067,057.00 as against GH¢1,039,673.00 in 2017, which represents a 2.63 per cent increase and exceeds the Bank of Ghana minimum capital of GH¢1 million for rural and community banks.

Dr Joseph Ayembilla, the Board Chairman of the bank, said this at the 13th annual general shareholders’ meeting at Zebilla.

The purpose of the general meeting was to present the 2018 performance report of the bank to the shareholders.

 The Board Chairman said the bank’s total assets rose from GH¢12,907,056.00 in 2017 to GH¢19,110,354.00 in 2018, representing 48.06 per cent increase.

It also recorded 12.80 per cent increase in loans and advances, making GH¢5,271,153.00 in 2017 and GH¢5,945,920.00 in 2018.

It also recorded an increase in short term investments from GH¢4,400,000.00 in 2017 to GH¢ 9,080,048.00 in 2018, representing a 106.36 per cent rise.

 Dr Ayembilla said the total deposits of the bank increased from GH¢10,351,176.00 to GH¢ 13,290,027.00 in 2017 and 2018 respectively, representing 28.39 per cent rise while the net worth moved from GH¢1,972,565 to GH¢2,233,394.00, representing 13.22 per cent increase.

The Board Chairman said all the financial indicators proved positive and as a result the bank was rated 32nd out of 142 rural and community banks nationwide and third in the region.

Dr Ayembilla said the bank has contributed to the growth and development of the area, impacting positively on education and youth development, health and economic empowerment of the underprivileged in society.

 The bank disbursed a total amount of GH¢22,192.00 in 2018 as compared to 7,200.00 in 2017 in respect of its social responsibility.

 The bank has also provided job opportunities for some youth in the community and created a platform for them to learn new skills, technology and personnel development,” he said.

 Dr Ayembilla said the objective of the bank was to increase investment in rural enterprises so that it could improve the rural economy of Bawku West District and its environs.

The Board Chairman said the bank had introduced automated teller machines (ATM) at its head office in Zebilla and assured the shareholders and members of the public that the board and management of the bank was investing in risk management to help safeguard against fraud.GNA
