Rawlings: Kwabena Adjei was passionate, lived his conviction

Former President Jerry Rawlings has paid tribute to former chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr Kwabena Adjei, describing him as a very strong, passionate man who lived his conviction, stood for his beliefs and was not materialist.

He said the deceased however, was very sad and disappointed about a lot of things saying, “Adjei was disappointed in terms of our own weaknesses as a party, disappointed about the politics of our party which had been monetised, held hostage and hurt about loss of value systems of the party”.

In a tribute, former President Rawlings described Dr Adjei, as a person who stood for the ethos of transparency, probity and accountability which he made known when he visited the family of the late former chairman of the party at his Agboba residence, near Accra. He urged the family to stay strong and united during the difficult period and was hopeful his children would carry some of his fighting spirit.

The late Dr Adjei served as chairman of the NDC from 2005 to 2014, prior to that, he had a rich political history, serving in several capacities under the PNDC and NDC governments.

An associate of the former President and good friend of Dr Adjei, Dr Anthony Dzegede, who knew Dr Adjei from his Nigeria days said as a thinker and a philosopher, it was only natural that Dr Adjei became a politician and described him as a genius with brilliant ideas, witty, full of humorous insinuations. –myjoyonline.com
