Minister of Works and Housing visits State Housing Company projects

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Samuel Atta-Akyea, on Tuesday  paid a working visit to the State Housing Company Limited (SHCL) where he interacted with management and staff of the company.

He also inspected some housing projects of the company which included the North Kaneshie 16 flat apartment housing project, a 65 housing project and a six units four bedroom storeybuilding at Adenta, a suburb of Accra.

The Managing Director of SHCL, Mr Kwabena Ampofo Appiah who led the Minister to inspect the facilities,saidthe projects were funded through the Company’s internally generated fund.

He said the company generatesfunds throughits rented apartments houses sold and construction.

Appiahstressed that the company for many years had not borrowed from any financial institution to fund its projects, and noted that the architectural designs, construction and supervision were carried out by workers of SHCL to minimized cost.

Mr Appiah said, aside the 65 housing project, the remaining projects would be completed somewhere next year and those interested should contact the company.

He said a court had issued an injunction on the 65 housing projectfollowing a litigation challenges faced with the Company and was hopeful the Attorney General and National Security apparatus would expedite their investigation for immediate commencement of the project.

Mr Appiah disclosed that the Company since 2016 had embarked on aggressive housing development across the country to make the company more viable.

Mr Atta-Akyea applauded the company for a massive initiative without any external funding and assured government’s commitment towards the settlement of the litigation.

“Iam saddened that because of some litigation this project is not having a full rollout. The ministry would take up the matter to ensure people do not use litigation to stall development,” he said.

He disclosed that government would soon embark on a serious housing programme   through the collaboration of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust(SSNIT) to provide flexible housing payment scheme for workers.
