NPP vetting in W/R riddled with petitions

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region is to begin the vetting of  28 parliamentary aspirants from 13 constituencies where there are sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).

Ahead of the vetting, the party has so far received more than four petitions with some coming from the Ahanta West, Kwesimintsim and Effia constituencies and the vetting being grouped into two will be headed by the second National Vice Chairman, F.F Anto.

The party is set to vet 13 aspirants from Amenfi East, Prestea Huni Valley, Tarkwa, Jomoro, Evalue Jomoro-Gwira, Mpohor Kwesimintsim, Effia, Takoradi, Sekondi, Essikado-Ketan and Shama constituencies.

Francis Ndede Siah, the Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, who confirmed receiving four petitions said: “I can confirm to you that four petitions have been received, one from Ahanta West, two from Effia, and I’m also told that there are two more but I don’t know where those petitions are coming from and the content in those petitions.”

 “I won’t give you further details on the petitions because the vetting committee will deal with them, also I want to warn aspirants to refrain from campaigning, for now we have not given any aspirant the green light to campaign, anybody who flouts the directive will be disqualified,” he said.

One of the petitions from the Effia constituency indicated that some polling station executives are praying the committee to disqualify one Adjoa Kwegyiriba Aggrey as they stated that she has never lived in the constituency.

In all, three incumbents in the persons of Joe Ghartey, the Minister of Railways Development and Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado Constituency, Catherine Abelema Afeku, MP for Evalue-Jomoro Gwira constituency and Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and MP for Prestea Huni-Valley constituency are contesting unopposed. -starrfmonline.com
