Winneba-based Raphael Nii Ankrah put up a superlative performance to beat Osu-based Caleb Aryettey 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s final of the maiden edition of the InterRecruit Scholarship Tennis Tournament, held in Accra on Friday.

Invictus Tennis Academy star, Sisu Makena Tormegah, was also in splendid form when she dispatched Ho Tennis Club’s Precious Nunana, 6-3, 6-1 in a thrilling women’s final.

For his prize, Nii Ankrah received an unspecified amount of cash and a trophy, while Ms Tormegah was also presented with a trophy and undisclosed cash.

Put together by the Inter Recruit Foundation, a US-based non-governmental organisation owned by Togolese Tennis Star, Sadietou Mayou and the Tennis Federation Ghana (TFG), the week-long event saw young players from ages of 16 battle for honours in the male and female junior open.

Speaking at the event, Founder of InterRecruit Foundation, Ms Sadietou Mayou, said the tournament was to discover talents, support winners and runners-up to secure scholarship to colleges and universities in the US.

She lauded the quality of talents in Ghana, adding that the goal is to keep them in schools, give them the opportunity to train and compete at the international level to level up their rankings.

Ms Mayou said her outfit would cater for the SAT forms, and tests of the winners and runners-up to gain admission to colleges in the States.

According to her, there were plans to extend it to other neighbouring countries, but will have Ghana as the hub, increase the prize money for winners and assured of more sponsorship in the next edition.

Nii Ankrah and Makena Tormegah thanked Ms Mayou and promised to make Ghana proud.
