The two mobile phones that Daniel Asiedu allegedly took from the room of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, in the Eastern Region, Joseph Boakye (J.B) Danquah Adu, were tendered in evidence at the Accra High Court yesterday.
The mobile phones- iphone 4 and 5 were tendered by Mr Kenneth Kuranchie, who was led in evidence by Mrs Sefakor Batse, a Principal State Attorney.
Mr Kenneth, who is the third prosecution witness, gave a detailed account of how he and his brother assisted the police to arrest Asiedu also known as Sexy Don Don.
The witness told the court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo that he sat behind the accused on a motorbike and rode to drinking bar where the accused was arrested by the police.
Asiedu was charged together with Vincent Bosso for alleged murder and conspiracy to commit crime.
During cross-examination conducted by Mr Yaw Dankwa, the witness disagreed with the lawyer that his testimonies were inconsistent.
The lawyer suggested to Kuranchie that he (Kuranchie) gave two different statements to the police in 2016 and 2019, which were at variance with his testimony in court.
Below was what transpired during cross-examination.
Question: You gave a written statement as recent as last year, 2020; is that story true?
Answer: I didn’t put down a statement to the police last year.
Question: Did you give a written statement or did you sign a statement to the police, gov’t or lawyers of A-G last year ?
Answer: No please, I did not.
Question: Now, that statement you signed that you are insisting was in 2019, was it the story you’ve told this court ?
Answer: Yes pls.
Question: In 2016, you wrote the statement to the police is that correct
Answer: Yes please
Question: In all, the two statements you gave in 2016, and subsequently in 2019, as well as the testimony you are giving before this court are all different stories, not the same. ?
Answer: No, the two statements as well as the testimony given to this court are the same. In 2016, when I was giving my statement, I spoke in English and Twi, the same story I narrated to this court and after the officers wrote a summarized version down and read to me and asked if that was so and I said yes.
Question: Now, did you tell them that the statement they have read to you is a summary of what happened
Answer: I did not and this is because the statement that appeared to have been summarised reflected what I had told them so I didn’t say anything
Question: Tell this court your educational background and highest qualification
Answer: I completed SHS and I have a WASSCE
Question: Tell this court how old were you when this incident happened
Answer: I was now getting to 23 years when it happened.
Daniele Asiedu and Vincent Bosso are currently in prison custody for the alleged murder of Mr Danquah-Adu.
They had been charged for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, while Asiedu had been charged separately of murder.
The two had pleaded not guilty of the charges.
Mr Danquah-Adu was murdered at his residence at Shiashie in Accra, on February 9, 2016.
