The Accra Circuit Court has granted G H¢80,000 bail to a mother and her son for alleged fraudulent sale of land and causing unlawful damage.
Elizabeth Acquah, 55, mother, was granted G H¢50,000.00 bail with two sureties to be justified and son, John Prince Danso, 31, was granted G H¢30,000.00 bail with two sureties to be justified.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court, presided over by Mrs Afia Owusuaa Appiah adjourned the case to November 29, 2022.
Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Victor Essel, is a development Officer and resided at Teshie, Accra.
Prosecution said last year, Acquah sold land located at Spintex Road area in Accra to the complainant for GH¢170,000.
Insp. Aloewu said the complainant after making full payment, started constructing a fence wall around the land.
The court heard that on February 2, this year, when the complainant visited the land, he found out that Danso had demolished the fence wall, which was constructed at the cost of G H¢10,000.
Insp. Aloewu said the complainant after further investigations, realised that the land belonged to Acquah’s husband, who had separated from her for 22 years, and all documents covering the land were still in his name.
Prosecution said the complainant contacted Acquah’s husband for his consent to enable him to develop the land to no avail.
Insp Aloewu said the complainant demanded a refund of the money from Acquah, but she could not do that.
The court heard that the complainant reported the case to the police and Acquah was arrested.
Insp. Aloewu said that Acquah claimed she contributed to the purchase of the land, and that she used the money she got from the sale of the land to finance the education of her sons.
Prosecution said Danso also claimed his father had given him Power of Attorney for the land. – GNA
