Work begins on ultra-modern office complex for Yendi Municipal Assembly

 The Member of Parliament for Yendi Constituen­cy in the Northern Region, Alhaji Fa­rouk Aliu Mahama on Monday joined the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari Mahama, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu to break ground for the construction of a new Yendi Municipal Assembly ultra-modern building complex.

The project when completed would provide enough space for workers of the Yendi Municipal Assembly.

The project would be executed by Barison Construction Limited and expected to complete within 18 months with funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

At a durbar of chiefs and people of the Yendi to break the ground, the MP said it was time to re-construct and build towards a vision dubbed- the New Yendi City.

“This vision of New Yendi City, with the utmost support of the President, the Vice President and the government, is becoming a reality,” he stated.

He said for the first time in Yendi, they were enjoying the comfort of asphalted roads in town and had the biggest street lightening project ever to improve upon the safety of the town.

Alhaji Mahama added that the project of the assembly fits well into the vision of building a new city in Yendi, adding, that would go a long way to renew the hope of the majority of the people with full anticipation of a better life for all.

He added that, the construc­tion of the new office was a clear demonstration of the govern­ment’s commitment to providing efficient and effective services to the people of Yendi.

“These symbolises our ded­ication to creating an enabling environment where governance is conducted seamlessly and the needs of the people are addressed promptly,” Alhaji Mahama said.

The MP said the new office would serve as a beacon of progress and a place for positive change in the area.

He said the project would generate employment opportuni­ties for local workforce to further boost the economic growth of the municipality and called on the contractor to engage the youth in the municipality.

The Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari Mahama said the construction of the new building for the assembly was dear to his heart.

He said several appeals was made through his palace to the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural De­velopment to give the assembly a befitting offices.

The Ya-Na on behalf of the people of Yendi thanked the government for staying true to the promise to reconstruct and expand the infrastructural base of Yendi, for the town to assume its rightful position as the traditional capital of Dagbon.

He added that the project sig­nified a collective of the spirit of partnership of the people in the municipality.

Ndan Ya-Na also thanked the agencies, contractors, engineers and especially the MCE and the staff of the assembly for their in­volvement in bringing the project to a fruition.

The Northern Regional Min­ister, Alhaji Shaibu urged the contractor to fast-track work on the project to finish it on time scheduled.

He said the construction of the office complex for the assembly was part of the government ef­forts to bring local governance to the doorsteps of the people.

The minister, however, ap­pealed to the people to support the contractor do the work within any challenges.
