Police chase spiritualist for attempting to bury boy alive

The police have mounted a manhunt for a spiritualist, Kweku Baah, for allegedly attempting to bury a two-year-old boy with special needs alive, in Dutch-Komenda in the Central Region.

The police has, however, grabbed the father, mother and grandfather of the boy, who are suspected to have conspired with Baah to commit the crime.

According to the Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Central Regional Police Command, Inspector Evans Ettie, preliminary investigations revealed that due to the impairment of the boy, the parents consulted Baah to get rid of the child.

Insp Ettie said personnel of Elmina District Police Command received a phone call that the parents of the boy and Baah attempted to bury alive a boy suspected to have special needs along the shore of Dutch-Komenda.

The Police PRO said the police proceeded to the crime scene and with the help of  Cosmos Bassaw, Assembly Member of the area, and the youth rescued the boy.

“Initial investigations gathered indicate that, due to the impairment of the boy, the parents consulted a spiritualist at Dutch-Komenda to get rid of the child,” Insp Ettie said.

He said “the parents of the boy, mother, 29, father, 37, and grandfather, 70, have been arrested and in police custody,” helping in investigations.

Insp Ettie said the boy, who survived, was taken to the Kissi Health Center, where he was treated and discharged.

He advised parents of children with special needs not to neglect them or get rid of them, since they could rely on the social welfare services for support.

“The police would want to use this opportunity to advise parents, who have children with special needs that there are public institutions like the Social Welfare, which can help them cater for children with special needs”. -citinewsroom.com
