Owusu to miss Meteors-Algeria clash

Black Meteors’ striker, Kwabena Owusu, will miss the African qualifying match against the Fennec Foxes of Algeria on Friday.

The clash at the Accra Sports Stadium is the first leg final qualifier with the visitors hosting the Ghanaians four days later in Algiers for a slot at the African tournament scheduled to take place in Egypt from November 8 to 22.

Confirming Owusu’s absence to this paper yesterday, assistant coach of the team, Michael Osei said the striker was having issues with his work permit in Spain and cannot leave to join the team for the match.

“Owusu has issues with his work permit and needs to stay and solve it before he can fly out from his base in Spain. He’ll find it difficult to go back when he comes and the problem remains unsolved.”

For this reason, the technical team has decided to excuse him so he can be able to sort out the issue.

But that, he said, would not affect the preparation and chances of the team against the Algerians.

He said 11 other foreign-based players have been invited to augment the team to get a respectable result.

Skipper Yaw Yeboah leads the foreign legions which include Deputy Skipper Isaac Twum, Osman Bukari, Dauda Mohammed, Majeed Ashimeru and Joel Fameyeh.

The rest are Joseph Painstil, Bernard Tekpetey, Nicholas Opoku, Gideon Mensah and Kingsley Fobi.

Coach Osei stated that the players were all expected to arrive last night, as they hope to have all of them join the 11 local players in camp today to train at the El -Wak Stadium.
