 Oly win, Hearts lose

Accra Great Olympics recorded their first win of the season when they defeated visiting Bibiani Gold Stars SC 1-0 in their match day three betPawa Premier League game played at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

A 47thinute moment of magic from striker Michael Osei was all the Dade boys needed to smile home.

An eventful first half which saw both goalkeepers Benjamin Asare of Great Olympics and Yaw Osei of Gold Stars pull great saves each to keep the scores even at the break.

On the 41st minute mark Asare saved a direct shot from Roland Frimpong who connected a Prince Kwabena Owusu cross from the right, drawing thunderous applauds from the crowd.

Four minutes after that, it was Osei’s turn to receive the cheers from the fans as he stretched to clear off the goal line a free kick from the foot of Samuel Ashie Quaye.

He again was called to duty in time added on to save a goal-bound header from Isaac Mensah, who was at the receiving end of a Christopher Nettey cross.

Immediately after the break, Osei flew home a bullet from about 35 yards to beat Osei this time round as he stretched to save but to no avail.

Olympics held on firmly until referee Jacob Aduntera brought proceedings to an end.

Earlier on Saturday skipper Saaka Dauda 47th minute effort was enough to earn returnees Bofoakwa Tano their second victory of the ongoing betPawa Premier League when they played Hearts of Oak at the Sunyani Coronation Park last Saturday.

The hard-fought win saw the Bofoakwa return to the summit of the league log dislodging Accra Lions who drew 1-1 with Berekum Chelsea at the Brerkum Golden City Park on Friday.

Both sides entered the game eager to record their second straight win of the season following wins in their week two games.

After a barring first stanza which had the two sides having few chances on target, with a lot of midfield play, it was the host who found the opener two minutes into the second stanza.

Dauda raced into the box of the Phobains, going past Kofi Agbesimah to connect home a pass from Ernest Mwankurinah.

Hearts of Oak playing without their head coach Martin Koopman who was reported sick before the game, committed men forward in search of the much needed equaliser but they failed to make an impact as the host held on to carry the day
