The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh, has presented 50 metal beds and mattresses valued at GH₵250, 000 to 15 health facilities in the constituency.
The beneficiaries include the Nsawam Government Hospital, Old hospital, AhwereaseDarmangHealth Centre, Notre Dame Clinic and Adiagyiri Zongo Health Centre.
The rest are Dorbro, Nsumia, Djankrom Zongo, Fotobi, Kofisah, Akraman, Kwakyekrom EPI, Obregyima, Nkyenenkyene and OtuKwadwo Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.
Handing over the beds, MrDompreh who is the Deputy Majority Chief Whip in parliament said the gesture was in response to the numerous complaints received from members of the constituency about inadequate beds at the various health facilities.
He said together with his team, he visited all the health facilities to assess their needs.
“When I visited the Nsawam Government Hospital, I saw the challenges and so I consulted the hospital authority and donated GH₵500,000 to support the construction of the ongoing maternity ward,” he said.
He said many other health facilities during the peak of the COVID-19 received delivery beds, microwaves, temperature guns, Veronica buckets amounting to GH₵200, 000 and other equipment required to make the work of the nurses easier.
These gestures he said were a precursor for bigger things to happen in the constituency.
MrDompreh revealed that discussions were ongoing regarding the construction of the first private Christian teaching hospital at Nsawam to ease the pressure on the Nsawam Government Hospital and other CHPS compounds within the constituency.
He called for support from all stakeholders to ensure that the dream of bringing the first private teaching hospital to Nsawam became a reality.
For her part, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Health Director, Eunice Abuaku, commended the Member of Parliament for his continued support to health care delivery in the constituency.
She said the beds had come at the right time when many health facilities in the area were faced with accommodation challenges especially when the need to admit their patients arose.
She said her outfit would ensure that the beds were maintained.
