The deceased has been identified as Amadu Songor, believed to be a Burkinabe, the two survivors are David Tikpe, a 20-year-old Ghanaian, and Gilbert Wuoba, 27, also a Burkinabe.

The galamsey pit collapsed on the three at about 4 pm on Monday, and a joint rescue team of personnel of the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) arrived at the scene to save victims.

A source at the Jirapa District Police Command, told the Ghanaian Times that the Assembly Member for Konzokala, Mr Stephen Salia, informed the police about the incident on Monday evening.

The source said the police and other security agencies proceeded to the scene of the incident, and found the men buried beneath the rubbles.
