Deen excited with new APC challenge

Newly elected President of the Africa Paralympic Committee(APC), Mr. Sampson Deen is excited about his election at the continental body and the challenge it comes with.

The leader of Ghana’s National Paralympics Committee(NPC), Deen,was elected new leader at the General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco last month.

Mr. Deen polled 24 of the total votes cast, beating Morocco’s Hamid El Aouni who had 15 votes. 

He replacesLeonel da Rocha Pinto who led the association for 13 years.

The total of 41 delegates (38 in-person and 3 voting online) comprised of Presidents and General Secretaries of National Paralympics Committees on the continent with nine positions contested.

Speaking to the Times Sports, Mr. Deen said he was excited to attain the position to contribute to the development of para sports on the continent.

“This is not victory for me alone but the country and the continent at large. I would do well to improve upon para sports in the continent and beyond,” he stated.

He said, his election was a huge boost to Ghana’s bid to host the African Para Games in 2023 after the African Games.

Mr. Deen who was elected NPC President in 2019 received massive endorsement by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the Deputy Sports Minister Evans Bobie Opoku present in Rabat to support his bid.
