The Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a researcher, Prince Abdulai, over an alleged GH¢75,000 car fraud.
This was after Prince Abdulai had failed to appear before Court.
This followed failure of Abdulai, who took GH¢60,000 and a refrigerator worth GH¢15,000 from Mr Ben Acheampong under the pretext of selling him a vehicle, to appear in court.
Prosecuting, Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, said Mr Acheampong, the complainant, is a businessman living at Osu, whilst Abdulai lived at West Legon, all suburbs of Accra.
Prosecution said both the complainant and accused were friends.
Insp Ofori-Appiah said in 2021, accused claimed ownership of a faulty black Range Rover vehicle, which was parked at a fitting shop at Abelemkpe, and was being offered for sale.
The court presided over by Mrs Ellen Ofei Ayeh, heard that the complainant after inspecting the vehicle, agreed to buy it at GH¢78,000.
Insp Ofori-Appiah said the complainant made part payment of GH¢60,000 and also received a fridge, valued at GH¢15,000.
The prosecution said latter when complainant realised that the vehicle did not belong to accused, he (complainant) demanded refund of his money, but to no avail.
Insp Ofori-Appiah said a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of accused.
The court heard that Investigations established that accused was not the owner of the vehicle, and he refunded GH¢46,000 of the money he took, and went into hiding.
Insp Ofori-Appiah said a forfeiture of recognisance was served on the surety to produce accused, but to no avail.
The case has been adjourned to February 22, 2023. —GNA
