Caterers of SFP to receive local food supplies

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Madam Cynthia Morrison,  has stated that from henceforth caterers of the School Feeding Programme ( SFP) would be supplied with local food stuff to prepare meals for beneficiaries of the programme.

She disclosed this in an interview with the Ghanaian Times on Monday, on the sideline of a dissemination workshop of the Ghana National Household Register (GNHR) data held in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region.

Mr Morrison said the ministry was collaborating with the Buffer Stock Company to supply local rice, maize, tomato, pepper, garden eggs, vegetable oil among others, to caterers of the SFP, to promote the consumption of locally produced food.

She stated that the dream of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to achieve Ghana Beyond Aid could only materialise if Ghanaians consumed what they produce, instead of depending on foreign goods.

Madam Morrison entreated municipal and district chief executives, directors of agriculture, SFP coordinators to play key roles in ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme.

She gave the assurance that plans were far advanced to ensure that there was constant payment to caterers of the SFP.

Madam Morrison explained that GNHR, which is under the MoGCSP, was mandated to create a Single National Household Register.

She explained that the GNHR undertook the Household Registration exercise, in the Upper West and Upper East Region in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

The minister said that the mandate of the GNHR was in accordance with the President’s vision to create equal society, where the poor and the vulnerable would be given equal opportunities.

Madam Morrison announced that plans were far advanced to extend the Household Registration Data Collection exercise to Northern, Savannah and North East, Volta regions this year.
