Bus kills woman at Suame Roundabout

A woman, who went to buy foodstuff at the Suame Roundabout, in Kumasi, was yesterday killed when she was hit by a bus that was heading toward Kejetia from Tafo, at about 5:00 am.

The woman, whose identity was not immediately known, was rushed to the Tafo Government Hospital where she died on arrival.

One other female trader was also injured and responding to treatment at the same hospital.

According to an eye witness, Ms Yaa Agyeiwaa, a trader, at the Suame Roundabout, the deceased used to buy foodstuffs at the Roundabout.

She said at the time of the incident, the deceased was buying plantain and she saw the bus speeding toward the direction where she was standing.

A source at the Suame Police Station confirmed the incident and said it believed the break of the bus failed and the vehicle veered off the main road.

According to the source, two persons were trapped under the vehicle, and were removed and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

But unfortunately, the woman, fair in complexion, died shortly after arrival at the hospital.

Trading at the roadside has become a norm in Kumasi in spite of the fact that some people have spoken against the practice in view of the danger it poses.

Suame Roundabout has become a mini market, where all kinds of foodstuffs are sold and it is hoped that with the completion of the construction of the four-tier interchange, traders would vacate the place.
