Fake Customs officer gets 12 yrs for defrauding

A 50-year-old man, Alhaji Musah Bukari, also known as (alias) commando, has been jailed by the Ashaiman Circuit Court for 12 years, for defrauding a Ghana based Nigerian businessman.

The complainant, Mr Francis Okafienhim, 46-year-old resident of Ashaiman VALCO Flats, told the court that, the accused, Alhaji Bukari, told him that he was a customs officer and was in charge of “auction cars” at the Tema Habour.

According to Mr Okafienhim, the accused told him he had been given the authority to auction a Nissan Navara car for 28,000.00 Ghana Cedis but needed to pay 13,000.00 Ghana Cedis into the government account before the deal could go through.

The complainant added that he declined the offer initially but the accused managed to convince him by sending him pictures of the cars to be auctioned.

The accused requested that the GHȼ13,000.00 could be paid to him via his mobile money account, so that the car could be delivered to him the following day, Mr Okafienhim said.

Mr Okafienhim again told the court that, after the money was paid into the account of Alhaji Bukari, he vanished into thin air until the police arrested him at his hideout in November 2016.

Mr Gabriel Mate-Teye, presiding judge, Ashaiman Circuit Court, stated that, the accused was already serving a 10-year jail term for a similar offence. – GNA
