Second Lady donates stethoscopes to E/R Hospital

The Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia has donated two digital fetal stethoscopes to the Eastern Regional Hospital last Thursday.

It was made possible through her foundation, Empowerment and Humanitarian Foundation

The fetal stethoscope was to enhance work at the hospital in the area of antenatal and maternal care.

Presenting the items to the hospital, Mrs Bawumia noted that the presentation was purposed to establish partnership between her foundation and the hospital to ensure quality health care for the citizenry, especially for pregnant women.

She stated that the best asset of any country was its human capital, hence the need to ensure a healthy people who would be able to develop well, be educated and take up jobs effectively adding that “no country can develop without its people healthy”. 

Mrs Bawumia stated that her visit was part of supporting a healthy, vibrant and productive society, saying, that she and the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo were collaborating to help reduce maternal mortality in the country.

The Second Lady added that statistics showed a worrying trend of maternal mortality in the region, hence the need to bring it to the barest minimum through such support from her foundation.

Mrs Bawumia expressed her appreciation to the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Kwame Anim Boamah for his good leadership and his committed team for delivering good medical services to the people in the region, especially to pregnant women.

For his part, the Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Benard Oko Boye revealed that the committee has a facility for the funding of the construction of an ultra-modern regional hospital in the Eastern Region.

He explained that the antenatal outreach unit for which he coordinates on the foundation has been organising such visits to antenatal clinics all over the country to ascertain how they can contribute towards the improvement of antenatal services in the country.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour commended the hospital for taking initiatives and   delivering quality services to the people in the region and called on the government and the second lady to extend more support to the hospital.  

The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Kwame Anim Boamah expressed his appreciation to the second lady for choosing the hospital for her visit asking that she help solve their challenges.
