Sanitation officer remanded for defrauding herbalist of GH¢42,000

A 38-year-old sanitation officer of the Atwima-Nwabiagya South Municipality, who allegedly defrauded a herbalist of GH¢42,000, has been remanded into prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court.

Zibrim Yakubu was said to have collected the money from the herbalist under the pretext of helping him to buy an auction car from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

His plea was not taken and would re-appear before the court on February 15.
Detective Chief Inspector Comfort Amankwaa told the court presided over by Mr Johnson Abbey that Yakubu was a sanitation officer while the complainant was a herbalist.

The court heard that last year, Yakubu told complainant that he (Yakubu) could assist him to buy an auction Toyota pickup, valued GH¢42,000.00 from the Ministry of Local Government since his brother worked there.

Chief Insp Amankwaa said the complainant became interested and paid the money to the accused.

She said the accused after collecting the money went into hiding and the complainant reported the case to the Nkawie police.

Chief Insp Amankwaa said the accused was arrested by the police and investigations into the matter were on-going. – GNA
