Police reverse interdiction of 3 top officers

The police administration has suspended the interdiction of three senior police officers linked to an alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, captured in a leaked audio tape.

The suspension of the interdiction of COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent (Supt) Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt George Lysander Asare, according to the police, was to avoid prejudice of the ongoing probe into the case by a Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee.

This is in a statement signed and issued in Accra last Thursday, by the Director of Public Affairs of Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, sighted by the Ghanaian Times.

It said “following the interdiction of COP Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt George Lysander Asare, in connection with the leaked audio tape, the police administration would commence disciplinary proceeding into their conduct upon completion of the ongoing probe by Parliament.”

The police administration earlier on Thursday, announced the interdiction of the three senior police officers in connection with the leaked audio tape recorded allegedly in the house of former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chief Bugri Naabu.

The three officers were been investigated over alleged plot to remove the IGP Dr Dampare from office.

An earlier statement issued in Accra on Thursday signed by ACP Ansah-Akrofi said the interdiction was to make way for disciplinary proceedings into the conduct of the three senior officers in line with Police Service regulations.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, in July this year, constituted a seven-member Parliamentary Special Committee with Samuel Atta-Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, as Chairperson, to investigate the alleged plot by the top officers to remove the IGP.

The Police Service administration had interdicted three senior police officers in connection with the leaked audio tape being investigated by Parliament.
