Police nab 73 suspected criminals in Accra

Seventy three suspected criminals have been arrested in a swoop by the police at Achimota and Tudu, suburbs of Accra, last Friday.

The exercise was aimed at clamping down on criminal activities in the areas and improved security.

The police were reported to have retrieved cocaine, quantities of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, 1.9mm ammunition and cash of GH¢1,001.

The Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Juliana Obeng,who confirmed the arrest, to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday, said the suspects were arrested in a dawn raid at Achimota charcoal station and Tudu.

She said 42 of the suspects were arrested at Achimota and 31 at Tudu.

DSP Obeng said 11 of the suspects; Kasim Salim, 22, Ibrahim Mohammed, 25, Sherif Mohammed, 28, Razak Yusif,21, Ashale Linch, 47, Richardson Owusu, 35, Apam Godson, 48, Misbao Moro, 31, Yazid Ahmed,28, Mohammed Sharif,22, and Rabui Musah, 27, were found with 358 whitish substances, wrapped in pieces of paper, suspected to be cocaine.

She said a quantities of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, and cash of Gh¢1001 together with a 1.9mm ammunition were retrieved from the suspects.

DSP Obeng “the remaining suspects are yet to be screened and if culpable would be taken to court ’’.

He urged the public to be security-conscious and vigilant, especially as Christmas gets closer and to report suspected criminal activities to the police.
