The activities marking the 55th anniversary celebration of Nana Afrakoma II, Paramount Queen Mother of the Akwamu Traditional Area, in the Eastern Region will continue this Saturday, November 9, 2019 with a night of entertainment and staging of Asemani play and artiste performance.

The celebration begun on October 1, 2019, and kick-started with the Bosom Anyensu Shrine purification and spiritual cleansing of the Black Stool.

As part of the activities, there will be a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 10, 2019.

A cocktail reception and fundraising would be held at the Royal Senchi Hotel, for the construction of the Nana Afrakoma II Vocational Institute on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

A grand durbar is slated for Saturday, November 16, 2019, to climax  the 55th anniversary of Nana Afrakoma II at Akwamufie.

Born Christiana Yaa Boamah or Attaa Payin, on the 14th of February 1946 to the late Kwasi Gyan of Akwamu-Gyakiti and Maame Ama Addobea of Akwamufie, Nana Afrakoma II is the twin sister of the late Christiana Boamah Gyan (mother of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III- Paramount King of Akwamu Traditional Area).

She had her early childhood at Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital where as a young child, her dream was to become a nurse due to her passion for caring for humanity

In March 1964, after the final funeral rites of Nana Akua Ansaah, then Queen mother of Akwamu, Yaa Boamah or Attaa Payin popularly known at that time was enstooled as her successor at the age of 18 with the stool name Nana Afrakoma II.

Though she was at a loss and did not know what was actually going on, she gladly accepted the responsibility to serve her subjects and has never turned her back on them since then.

Having been on the stool for the past 55 years, she has been taunted as one of Ghana’s longest serving Queen Mothers in history where she has been very instrumental in the development of Akwamuman and had  mentored a lot of women and queen Mothers across the country.

She also served on the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection Anti Human Tracking Board due to her charity works and love for children and the aged which cannot be overlooked.

Nana Afrakoma’s New Year’s Party for the kids in Akwamufie over the past 10 years was something every child looked up to.

During the Busia Regime, she petitioned the then education minister to accept Akwamuman Senior Secondary School to be accepted as a government school and just after a month of assessment by the team from the ministry, the school was accepted by government.

Though faced with a lot of challenges, Nana Afrakoma II has served Akwamuman and the country as a whole honorably for the past 55 years.
