Hearts to face Oly in Gbese Mantse Cup

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Mr Kurt Okraku, has launched the Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics on August 20 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game is part of activities to mark this year’s Ga Homowo celebrations to honour the Gbese Mantse, Nii Dr Ayibonte II, and a brainchild of Goldstar Consult in partnership with the GFA and Max TV.

Launching the game, Mr Okraku said he was excited about the game to honour the Gbese chief who he described as a football colossus.

He said Nii Gbese has gone through the ranks regarding club football administration and won a lot of accolades with Hearts of Oak.

“He also worked with Accra Great Olympics to help shape the club; it is for this reason such a game is perfect to celebrate a football administrator par excellence.”

The Director of Communications at the Office of the Gbese Mantse, Theophilus Wilson Edzie, thanked the two clubs for coming together to honour Nii Gbese, promising that the King and his kinsmen would in return honour both teams with a royal visit.

He disclosed that Nii Gbese had ordered a trophy from the United Kingdom to be contested for by the two teams and others for the best goalkeeper and best player of the match.

The Chief Executive Officer of GoldStar Consult, Samuel Animal Addo, urged fans of the two teams to attend in their numbers to change the perception of fans not watching games.

Other speakers at the launch included the National Chapters Committee (NCC) Chairman of Hearts of Oak, Elvis Herman Hesse, and Communications Director for Accra Great Olympics, Emmanuel Saint Osei.

Both men thanked the organisers for putting together the match and vowed to undo each other for the bragging rights.
