Gyasehene appeals to public servants to support corruption fight

The Gyasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Twumasi Dankwa has appealed to public servants to support the fight against corruption in the public service to avoid the situation where some politicians came to power as honest people and left office as corrupt people but the public servants always remained till retirement.

“Public servants have critical roles to play either to help fight or promote corruption and supply value chain operators must aspire to improve upon policies, programmes, procedures and to share their experiences,” he noted.

Nana Dankwa was speaking at the formal opening of the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Health Services Supply Chain Practitioners Association, Ghana (HESSCPAG) at Koforidua in the Eastern Region organised on the theme: ‘Supply chain ethics and compliance, the role of a practitioner’.

He reminded the supply chain practitioners within the service of the requirements of ethical supply chain and the expectations of the end users in the supply chain as well as environmental standards and quality health conditions of all players in the supply chain.

Araba Kuduabor, Director of Supplies of the Ghana Health Services (GHS) warned that the GHS would not shield any individual in the supply chain who behave unethically and threatened that such individuals would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

“Recent reshuffling of procurement managers at the regional directorates of GHS and the regional hospitals this year is aimed at initiating new energies among the managers and to enable them to come up with innovative ideas whilst adhering to the rules and regulations of their work,” and urged them to “work harder to ensure improvement in the procurement procedure.

“After completion of first and second sites for use of drones to deliver emergency medical supplies at Omanaku in the Eastern Region and Mampong in the Ashanti Region respectively, third site at Walewale in Northern Region will be commissioned in December this year and fourth will be constructed at Sefwi Wiawso in Western Region,” Mrs Kuduabor disclosed.

Edwin Agbugbla, the National President of the Association, called for the replacement of many of the supply chain practitioners in the Service who had gone on retirement.

Samuel Ayertey, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister urged members of the association to be abreast with best practices and emerging challenges in their field of work. -gna.org
