GTA organises blood donation to stock bank

Staff of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) on Friday organised blood exercise to stock the National Blood Bank to save the lives in times of needs.

The exercise, as part of its corporate social responsibility, coincided with the 50th anniver­sary celebration of the GTA.

Supervised by health officials, it brought together donors from the National Road Safety Au­thority, National Commission on Culture and Ghana Food Associ­ation Foundation, students from the Ghana Journalist Association.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in charge of Gen­eral Service, Mr Benjamin Anane Nsiah in his remarks stressed the need to stock the blood bank to help during emergency cases.

A Medical Doctor of Keystone Medical Service, Dr Qyaye Mensah told journal­ists that the collected blood would be screen of Hepatitis B and C, HIV and other infec­tious diseases to make it safe for transfusion.

Dr Mensah advised the public to volun­tary donate blood to assist during emergen­cy cases, adding that blood was something that could not be produced, and needed to be donated to stock the blood bank.

He urged the public to dispel the misconception about donating blood, add­ing when they were in stock they could be used during emergen­cies such as delivery, surgeries and accident cases, among others.

Dr Mensah appealed to people with blood group with ‘O’ Posi­tive and ‘O’ Negative to donate, adding that such blood could be given to a wide array of people.

Some of the activities line up for the celebration in November this year includes industry games and fun day, launch of GTA re­tirees association, renaming head office building, and unveiling of GTA brand guide, dinner and awards, dinner and awards and jubilee night of praise and carols.
