Government should fund Climate Action projects- Celestine Baffowaa Obeng

Reigning Miss Tourism Ghana, Celestine Baffowaa Obeng, has urged the government to fund projects that supported climate action.

According to her, through these projects, the destroyed environment would be controlled for safer surroundings.

Miss Baffowaa Obeng, made this call on Friday, when protestors gathered at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), as they joined millions of people around the world to hold global climate strike.

She also appealed to authorities to reinforce laws that supported climate action. That, she said, would lead to restoration and protection of living ecosystem to fix broken climate.

The Head of Operations at Miss Tourism Ghana, Mrs Delphine Brew-Hammond also said taking part in the climate change action was one of the ways to help raise awareness about Ghana’s reaction to the phenomenon.

“It also deepens on our knowledge as Ghanaians of what our country has to offer. That’s why we ensure that every young woman who passes through the Miss Tourism Ghana Organisation gets to know about Ghana and the world at large.”

Climate change is an urgent global issue and should current practices continue, we are likely to reach the tipping point in the near future.

A petition was later submitted to the Ministry for Environment and Science in the company of the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, leaders from Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE), and Action Aid.
