German win IBF middleweight title

Vincenzo Gualtieri from Wuppertal, Nordrein-Westfalen, Germany, outscored former Olympian silver medallist, Esquiva Falcao of Brazil to claim the vacant IBF middleweight title, which had been vacated by Genady Golovkin, on Saturday night at the Unihalle in Wuppertal, Germany.

The scores were 117-109 and 116-110 twice.

Gualtieri scored a knockdown in the second round and stunned Falcao in the fifth round as Falcao barely managed to stay on his feet.

In the seventh round, Falcao was sent to the canvas with a low blow where the referee began to count him out, but then realised it was a low blow and Falcao was given five minutes to recover.

Gualtieri scored another knockdown in the tenth round and finished a deserved winner.

On the same card, Etinosa “Chapo” Oliha (18-0; 8) from Italy won the vacant IBO middleweight title with a unanimous 12-round points decision over Julio Alamos (16-1; 9) from Chile.

The scores were 116-112 and 115-113 twice. – SuperSport
