GCB donates GH₵100,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund

The Management of GCB Bank on Wednesday donated an amount of GH₵100,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund to support the fight against the pandemic.

The Deputy Managing Director in Charge of Finance at GCB, Socrates Afram, made the presentation on behalf of the bank at the fund’s secretariat at the Jubilee House in Accra.

He said the donation was part of the bank’s commitment to the fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“As a bank for the Ghanaian people, we believe we have a duty to support the fight against the pandemic,” he said and added that GCB bank had contributed in many ways to help reduce the effects of the pandemic in the country.

The COVID-19 Trust Fund was established by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last year to raise funds from corporate organisations, entities and individuals to support frontline workers and the underprivileged in the communities.

The Board Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, Justice Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice, received the donation on behalf of the fund and thanked the management of GCB Bank for the kind gesture.

The National COVID-19 Trust Fund was established by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in April last year to raise funds to support the vulnerable and protect frontline workers fighting against the pandemic.

So far, the Board of Trustees of the fund have received cash contributions of over GH₵50 million and in kind donations from over 700 corporate, private and individual donors.

While commending GCB Bank, Justice Akuffo said the fund was getting dry and appealed to the public to continue to support the fight against the pandemic with cash and donations in kind.

She said the Trust Fund had provided various relief interventions to support those directly engaged in the combat of the pandemic as well as those heavily afflicted by the pandemic.

“I know that with more resources, we can do a lot more. We are therefore appealing to the public to support us with more contributions in cash and in kind to enable the Trust Fund provide more relief interventions towards the combat of the pandemic,” she said.

She also appealed to the public to participate in the vaccination programme and continue to wear their facemasks even after the vaccination till the pandemic is defeated completely.

The Wesley Girls High School Old Girls Association (WGHS OGA) also donated 37 COVID-19 protective packs to the trust fund to be distributed to frontline workers
