Isaac Dogboe is getting a second chance with his fight against Robeisy Ramirez for the vacant WBO 126-lb title today at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.
On paper, Robeisy might be too much for the 28-year-old Dogboe, as he has got a huge advantage in amateur pedigree in this bout.
This could be the beginning of a journey for Robeisy that could end with him becoming the undisputed champion at 126.
It is too bad Emanuel Navarrete vacated his WBO 126-lb title to move up to 130 because it would be interesting to have seen him and Robeisy battle it out.
The two-time Cuban Olympic gold medallist, Ramirez and former WBO super bantamweight champion,Dogboe, met on Thursday for the final press conference to talk about their fight today. Robeisy has looked outstanding lately, stopping his last three opponents Jose Matias Romero, Abraham ‘Super’ Nova, and Eric Donovan.
The power in Robeisy’s left hand appears to have improved since turning pro in 2019.
In a surprising loss, Robeisy came up short in his pro-debut against the unheralded Adan Gonzalez in a four-round split in August 2019. Robeisy was knocked down by the light-hitting Gonzalez and was unable to rally to make up the difference. In their rematch a year later, Robeisy blanked Gonzales, beating him by a lopsided six round unanimous decision in July 2020.
Dogboe captured the WBO super bantamweight title in 2018, stopping Jessie Magdaleno in the eleventh round in an exciting contest that saw both fighters hurt.
However, Dogboe lost his WBO 122-lb title in December 2018, losing to the bigger Emanuel Navarrete by a twelve-round unanimous decision.
In the rematch in May 2019, Dogboe was stopped in the 12th round by Navarrete. To his credit, Dogboe has turned his career round, winning his last four fights against these fighters: Joet Gonzalez, Chris Avalos, Christopher Diaz and Adam Lopez. In the chief support bout, featherweight Joet Gonzalez (25-3, 15 KOs) faces Jose Enrique Vivas (22-2, 11 KOs) in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds.
