Ghana is seeing gradual decrease in its active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, although the number of casualties keeps increasing by the day.
The situational dashboard of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates that between August 30 and September 5, 2021, 32 people had succumbed to the virus.
Currently, total number of active cases of COVID-19 stand at 5,779 as of September 5, 2021 with the death toll at 1,084.
Of the active cases, 129 are in severe condition while 51 others in critical state.
The Greater Accra region accounts for about 71 per cent of the present active cases (4,099) with the remaining regions recording minimal number of cases.
The Ashanti Region has 428 active cases, Western 248, Eastern 154, Volta 107, Central 179, Bono East 161, Bono 31 and Northern Region, 27.
The Upper East Region has 41 active cases, Ahafo12, Western North 23, Oti Region 14, Upper West 34, North East 20 and Savannah Region having 47 active cases.
Meanwhile, Ghana has revived its COVID-19 vaccine deployment programme which stalled for a while due to global vaccine shortage, amidst new waves of the disease.
Under the plan, the country envisages achieving at least 60 per cent herd immunity by vaccinating 20 million of the entire population by the end of the year.
So far, about 3 million vaccines have come into the country since February this year comprising AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson and Johnson and recently, Moderna.
