One hundred and fifty civil servants and other government officials have been honoured at this year’s Civil Service Awards for the promotion of the civil servant.
Held under the theme: ‘Enhanced Service Delivery and Economic Transformation in Ghana-The Civil Service in Focus’ was in fulfilment of Section 88 of the Civil Service Act, 1993, Act 327.
It was to climax the week-long celebration of the Civil Service Week 2023 which sought to project the importance of civil servants and policy formulation on national development and show appreciation to dedicated staff in the performance of duty as well as deliberate and exchange ideas on public sector issues.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, stated that it was time to further reflect on the success, achievement and challenges encountered to help and encourage themselves while commending staff who had committed immensely to improve in service delivery.
He encouraged other public service organisations and the private sector to collaborate and drive the national development agenda to improve productivity.
In spite of the economic downturn and interruptions in the work processes, Mr Bagbin said the staff of civil service had been at the forefront in reshaping the economy and had also worked tirelessly to ensure the continuity of government business and commended them for their great efforts towards national development
The Head of Civil Service, Nana Kwasi Agyekum Dwamena, congratulated the winners on their remarkable performance in the year under review and urged them not to relent but continue to be on track to ensure progress, growth and development of the service.
Although selected civil servants were rewarded at the ceremony, Mr Dwamena indicated that the entire workforce had collectively contributed significantly to the strides made by the service.
He stated that the civil service remained resolute to develop new ways of achieving its mandate and meeting the needs of its clients.
He said the service believed in continuous improvement and saw every opportunity as a new beginning to learn and unlearn.
He therefore pledged that the management of the service would continue to deliver on its mandate to ensure that the vision of the government and the nation was realised.
The Chief Director at the Office of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mr Kwesi Armo-Himbson, took home the ultimate award as the Overall Best Performing Chief Director for 2022.
Honorary awards were presented to some individuals for their contributions to the reformation and growth of the public administration over the years.

The Head of the Civil Service, Nana Agyekum-Dwamena thanked all civil servants for their dedication to work and encouraged them to continue to give off their best for the good and growth of country. He expressed gratitude to the Government for the support given to the Service and promised they will work harder to help its growth.
