Ashalaja gets customary land secretariat to address disputes

A new customary land secretariat was last Saturday inaugurated at Ashalaja to address land disputes.

Known as the Nii Akwanor Royal Family land secretariat, the office would record all land transactions at the local level, as well as resolve land disputes within the area.

The Nii Akwanor Royal Family Land Secretariat would be operated by Sissamba Empire Company Limited in collaboration with the family head, Solomon Mintah Ackaah.

At the inaugural ceremony, Mr Ackaah revealed that the decision to establish the office had been the desire of the family, adding that the office did not belong to the family but to the people of Ashalaja and for the future generation.

He said the secretariat would sanitise and streamline land ownership and management, and be responsible for the issuance of application forms and allocation notes in the acquisition of lands, hence, a requirement to obtain permit for building.

Mr Minkah noted that the secretariat would also capture all lands acquired by developers in the area and prepare all land related documents to ensure accurate land transactions and records, and cautioned the public against buying land from unauthorised person(s).

“I am the substantive Head of the Akwaanor Royal family of Ashalaja, my headship of the family has been confirmed by the Supreme Court on the April 14, 2021, so know who you do business with,” he stated.

Solomon Mintah Ackaah further called on individuals or organisations who had acquired lands in Ashalaja in the name of Adams Addy and Adu Akwanor to regularise the said acquisitions with the Land Secretariat in compliance with the Land Act 2020 (Act 1036).

The Public Relations Officer for National Zongo Chiefs, Chief Moro Baba Issa, expressed delight at the establishment of the secretariat, saying, “It will aid in the overall administration of lands in the Greater Accra Region.”

He advised chiefs in Accra to heed to a recent call by the Greater Accra Regional Minister to avoid the indiscriminate sale of lands without proper documentation.

Alhaji Issa indicated that the secretariat had come at the right time to put things in place for the proper management of lands for the benefit of all the people.
