12 die in road crash at Eduegyei

Twelve passengers died on the spot when the Toyota Hiace Bus they were traveling by collided head-on with another vehicle at Eduegyei, in the Komenda-Edina-Egyuafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region.

The Toyota Hiace with registration number WR 1347- 17 was said to be traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi when it bumped into the DAF Truck with registration number GM 2570-12, which was traveling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.

The Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) ADO II Abdul Wasiu Hudu said, the office received a distress call at 3:50 pm yesterday, from a policeman about the accident, and rescue team was quickly dispatched to the scene from Elmina Fire Station.

He explained that the GNFS personnel arrived at the scene at 3.58pm and looked out for survivors, but only one woman was rescued.

The sole survivor was currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital while the bodies had been deposited at morgue at the same hospital.

ADO II Hudu said the GNFS personnel indicated that they did not meet the driver of the DAF Truck at the scene.

An eyewitness, said that the DAF Truck moving from Takoradi towards Cape Coast was overtaking a vehicle ahead of it amidst poor visibility on that stretch of the road as a result of smoke from burning bush.

The truck driver run into the Toyota Hiace bus which was traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi, according to the eye witness.
