Desist from flaunting wealth, pastors admonished

The Head Pastor of Prayer Temple branch of the International Central Gospel Church  (ICGC) at North Legon, Pastor Daniel Ofori Awuku has admonished men of God to desist from flaunting their riches and eschew competition among themselves as to who is the most wealthiest.

According to him, the excessive flaunting of opulence whilst some church members were poor, was so wrong and unfortunate.

He lamented that in recent times, some men of God, could be seen on social media, among other places, openly displaying their opulence, to the extent of throwing a challenge to others to also show off their wealth.

He made these remarks when speaking to The Spectator on the sidelines after donating to The Nsawam Prisons and Dzorwulu Special School over the weekend.

Pastor Daniel Awuku said, such lifestyles, would discourage those who genuinely wish to support the church, thereby leaving them to their fate.

He added that, by exhibiting such opulence, some members of the public would show indifference, but others would take serious offense to it.

“I don’t want to be judgemental but this is so wrong. Other men of God paved the way for us, and preserved the work of God, if we abuse it, generations after us will have a lot of work to do,” he said.

Pastor Daniel Awuku further added that, showing off wealth just to compete among the clergy was not the purpose for which God called them.

According to him, Christianity was about sacrifice and that those in the charismatic churches must ensure that whatever they did reflected in the lives of others positively, and brought them up in the fear of God.

He said God sacrificed his only begotten son “so that whosoever believed in him, should not perish but have an everlasting life”.

“This was an act of sacrifice for other to people to benefit. Men of God must emulate this, and sacrifice for the good of others, than just show off their ill gotten wealth to the poor, which in itself was wrong,” he said.

Talking about the donations which he spearheaded, Pastor Daniel Awuku noted that they gave the inmates of the Nsawam Prisons and students of Dzorwulu Special School, 11 bags of clothes, 35 packs, two boxes and 81 packs of sanitary pads, 96 pairs of bathroom sandals, detergents, antiseptics, toothpaste, and food items in addition to women’s shoes and handbags among others.

He said the motive behind the gesture was to give back to the less-privileged in the society, adding that, whenever, one gave to the poor, he was lending to God which would be rewarded.

Pastor Ofori Awuku, added that, he instituted the yearly gesture in September, his birth month, to show love to the downtrodden and teach his people the essence of giving.
