You lack moral justification to criticise govt  …Afenyo-Markin to Minority

Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has questioned the moral authority of the opposition National Democratic Congress and its lawmakers in Parliament to question the economic performance of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government.

According to the Effutu MP, the NDC under the watch of John Mahama as president oversaw one of the worst economic periods of the country only for the Akufo-Addo government to come and repair those fragilities.

Responding to attacks launched on the government by the Minority Leader when he rounded up his side’s debate on the message on the state of the nation’s address delivered by President Akufo-Addo last month, Mr Afenyo-Markin said their colleagues in opposition must endeavour to see the good works of the NPP government.

“As the Deputy Finance Minister, you had a big input in what former President came to present here and today the liberties of opposition is making you Dr Ato Forson to mislead Ghanaians that we have not performed,” he said.

He said the only area the NDC boasts of performance is the education sector at the detriment of other sectors.

Even with that, he submitted that the NDC government could not deliver on its promise to build 100 community day senior high schools, completing only 29 and saddling the Akufo-Addo government with the responsibility to complete the rest.

“Mr Speaker, we came and completed 31 more of such facilities; in the Central Region, Naana Opoku Agyemang (the NDC’s vice presidential candidate) could not do five, four and three of these projects in the region.

“Dr Ato Forson and Naana Opoku Agyemang failed the people of the region in the education sector deliverables,” he stated.

Still in the Central Region, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the NDC government could not construct a single landing beach to aid the work of fisherfolks in the region.

On the contrary, he said the Akufo-Addo led government has constructed landing beaches in Axim, Dixcove, Elmina, Moree, Winneba, Senya Beraku, Gomoa Fetteh, all in the Central Region and beyond in Teshie and Keta.

These interventions, goes to address the daily hustle the fisherfolks had to go through to get the fish to feed the population.

On the banking sector cleanup which saw the revocation of license of some nine universal banks, the Majority Leader said the former regime looked for the sector to collapse only for the NPP government to pay depositors whose funds were locked with the banks.

“Mr Speaker, this is the NDC in 2016 when Ghanaians lost their money under the supervision of Seth Tekper and Ato Forson and this is what the President of the republic came to tell us that it was not his government but about BoG,” he said.

The Akufo-Addo government, Mr Afenyo-Markin said outshines the former regime in all areas of the sector and that Ghanaian people would be the better judge.
