World Photography Day marked in Accra

The Ghana Photojournalist Network (GPN) in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, joined the World to celebrate World Photography Day in Accra at the weekend.

That day is celebrated yearly throughout the world which falls on August 19. This year’s celebration was on the theme “Understand the Clouds” and was marked at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

Members of the Network exhibited their skills by capturing images of the refurbished, and the magnificent Memorial Park with the aim of showcasing the photos in their various media.

The celebration of the Global Photography Day at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park forms part of the Network’s contribution to help promote tourism and market the place to the world.

The significance of the World Photography Day was to celebrate creativity and innovation of photographers, and to reflect the power of photography in order to capture and share moments in time.

The occasion was a time to celebrate the art form, craft, science and history, photography and to encourage photographers from around the globe to share a single photo that encapsulates their world.

The purpose of the day was also celebrated to pay homage to the pioneers of photography who inspired photographers to take up their skills and contribute to society.

Photography is a powerful tool that can be used to express oneself, communicate with others and make the world a better place.

Addressing the occasion, Mr Kwesi Agyeman, the Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), praised members of the Network for partnering the GTA and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial park in celebrating the Day.

He urged the Network to extend their coverage to the other tourism sites and interesting places in the country to showcase them to the world, pointing out that photographs played a major role in promoting tourism in any country and Ghana is no exception.

He expressed the hope that more of such collaboration would take place in the near future in order to promote tourism and bring much revenue into the country.

On his part, the Acting Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Mr Edward Quao, expressed profound joy for the partnership between the GTA and the Network, and thanked the government for the initiative in refurbishing the park into a tourism site.

He briefed members of the network on the daily activities of the memorial park.
