Work on Youth Resources Centre project at Ho is 65% complete

The Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr Sylvester Tettey, last Friday expressed concern about the slow pace of work of the Youth Resources Centre at Ho in the Volta Region.

According to him, the project which is expected to be completed in March this year and handed over to the NYA by the contractor, “from the look of things would not meet the schedule.”

The CEO accompanied by his management staff and Mr Yao Semode, Volta Regional Director of the NYA, met few workers on site upon arrival.

Mr Tettey, however, commended the contractor for the quality of materials used and was confident that after the completion of work the lifespan of the facility would be assured.

He said the government was focused on improving sports development in the country and would not allow anyone to retard the progress made so far.

Mr Lordson Asante, site engineer, told the NYA CEO that 65 per cent of the work had been completed, and was hopeful, everything would be done to meet the handing over period.

He said what was remaining were the pipe works, the re-grassing of the pitch and other minor works.

Mr Asante explained that, what actually delayed the work was the waterlogged nature of the area, as the whole area got flooded during the raining season.

Mr Tettey said plans were far advanced to create their own Internally Generated Fund (IGF) by going into vegetable farming.

He said they were ready to equip the youth with knowledge, skills and expertise in crop production through the use of modern systems and technology.

Mr Tettey assured that the authority under his leadership would continue to be innovative in order to support the government to raise more funds for national development as well as improve the welfare of workers.
