Tongo SHTS gets temporary dining hall

A philanthropist, Mr Martin Atia Aduko has constructed a temporary dining hall at the cost of about GHC 20,000.00   for the Tongo Senior High Technical School (SHST) in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

This followed an appeal by management of the school led by the Headmaster, Mr Thomas Apana to the general public to help the school construct a dining hall.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the facility on Tuesday, Mr Aduko said he was moved by the plight of the school and decided to support it with the facility.

He promised to lobby other friends and relatives to furnish the structure and called on other residents to take keen interest in the development of the school.

The headmaster commended Mr Aduko for his gesture, saying the school was absorbed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in 2014 and currently had a population of 130 students.

Mr Apana said the school was running programmes in General Arts, Business, Home Economics, Technical courses, including Applied Electricity, Building and construction, but lacks a dormitory, staff accommodation, water and toilet facilities.

The District Director of Education, Hajia Adisa Emelia, entreated the management of the school to register lands donated to the school by the community, and asked parents to ensure that the girl-child completed their education.

The Upper East Regional Human Resource Director of the GES, Mr John Anaba, said the Directorate would seek the support of the Regional Coordinating Council and the District Assembly towards the infrastructural development of the school.
