‘STEM IS THE FOUNDATION FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS’

Mrs Elsie Effah Kauffman has attributed the importance of teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in schools as the foundation where problems are solved.

The National Science and Maths quiz mistress stated that students trained in this field were essential to the development of the country.

She was speaking at the launch of the 110th Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Adisadel College, in Accra on Sunday on the theme “STEM Education; The Future of Today’s Youth and Ghana’s Economic Transformation.”

The speech and prize giving day is scheduled to be held on March 14.

Mrs Kauffman acknowledged the 1995 year group of the school for their immense decision in constructing a three-storey STEM house for the school with a seating capacity of 300 students.

“We teach our science in a very abstract way which doesn’t make much of an impact on our students so the project is important.

“I am very excited that they have an innovation hub since it gives them the chance to solve problems in an innovative way,” she added.

Head of STEM, Mr Kwamina Ackun-Wood in his presentation said that the project would not only be available to the students, but to the entire country for teaching and learning.

“A number of projects came to thought but we concluded with a STEM house project since it was the critical need of the school and the nation,” he stated.

He assured that although other neighboring schools such as Mfantsiman and others had completed theirs, the college wanted to take the project a step ahead.

Mr Ackun-Wood advised other members of the year group to contribute towards the development of the project and not to relent.

President of the National Executive of Adisadel Old Boys Association (AOBA), Mr Oscar Bruce stated that the advantage in undertaking the project was foreseen.

“It is my vision that together with the year group we shall have the house completed as soon as possible and it would serve us well for many years to come,” he said.

Patron of the 1995 year group, Nana Osae Nyampong praised the efforts of the year group and promised to supply Premafix Cement for the project.
