The Republic Bank Ghana last Thursday presented a cheque of GH¢200,000 to the Koforidua Technical University (KTU), to aid in the construction of its proposed health facility.
At a short ceremony here, the bank handed over the dummy cheque to the management of KTU in fulfilment of a commitment made by the bank to help with the construction of the facility.
The donation made was the second tranche of a GH¢300,000 pledge made by the bank to the university, for which it already donated GH¢100,000 last year.
The General Manager in-charge of Commercial and Retail Banking of the bank, Mr Joseph LaryeaAshong, indicated that the support was part of their corporate social responsibility purposed to help the country’s health and education sector, which were a core part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
MrAshongsaid as part of the SDGs 3 and 4 which related to health and education, he believed that the construction of the health facility fell in line with the bank’s vision of supporting communities.
“Wherever we operate we want to impact the lives of the people and so we believe that if we help the school, it is going to impart health not only to the people in the school but would serve the whole community where the school is situated as well and at the long run it would help to fulfil the SDGs,” he said.
MrAshong mentioned that the bank during the outbreak of the COVID-19 supported a number of communities both national and local with a number of medical facilities across the country.
He said they would continue to impact the lives of others at communities where they operate, adding that they were committed to contribute their quota in improving health and education in the country.
Expressing his appreciation to the bank, the Vice Chancellor of KTU, Professor David Essumang, said the funds would greatly help to bring back to live the health facility which they nearly abandoned for lack of funds.
He was grateful to management of the Republic Bank for the kind gesture and their commitment to ensure the construction of the health facility.
He promised that the money would be judiciouslyused for the construction of the health facility.
