The Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdal Fatah Ahmed Alsattari, has called on the United Nations (UN) to support the implementation of the Oslo Accords for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine
The Oslo Accords are a pair of agreements between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organisation; the Oslo I Accord signed in Washington, D.C., in 1993; and the Oslo II Accord, signed in Taba, Egypt, in 1995 to promote peace between the two countries.
That, he said, would bring peace between Israel and Palestine in particular and the Middle East in general.
Speaking at a photo exhibition of slain Palestinian journalist and prisoner, Shireen Aklerh, and Nasser Abu Hamid respectively in Accra on Thursday he said a two- state solution would help Palestine to gain freedom from Israel and regain its lands appropriated by the latter.
The programme which was on the theme “Palestine: A case of illegal occupation and apartheid,” was attended by some members of the diplomatic corps, religious and traditional leaders and a cross section of the general public.
The Ambassador said Palestine had for 75 years endured oppression from Israel while the international community looked on.
He said it was the right of Palestine to enjoy peaceful occupation of their lands without oppression.
The Palestinian Ambassador said Palestine would continue to use peaceful protests to gain its freedom and sovereignty.
He said the international community and the United Nations should stop Israel from the continuous killing of unarmed Palestinians for defending their human rights.
According to him, Israel continued to defy international laws to annex Palestinian lands for the building of settlements.
The Member of Ketu South, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in his remarks said Ghana since independence had continued to support and be on the side of Palestine.
That, he said, was because of the experience of slavery and colonialism.
Mr Ablakwa said the people of Palestine deserve the right for respect and peaceful occupation of its lands.
He said the international community must not look aside while the people of Palestine continue to endure domination and oppression from the hands of Israel.
Mr Ablakwa who is the ranking member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, pledged that Ghana would continue to support the people of Israel for their freedom and sovereignty.
The Executive Director of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, Kwesi Pratt, said there could no neutrality by the international community and United Nations of the oppression of Palestine by Israel.
“The daily massacre of children and the destruction of the agricultural land of Palestine by Israel must stop,” he said.
Mr Pratt pleaded with Israel to allow all Palestinian refugees across the world to return home.
He said Palestine deserved its freedom and sovereignty
