TrueCare Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), last Tuesday presented a cheque for GH₵ 27,608.00 to Focus Orthopedic Hospital in Accra to support the surgical operation on a three- year-old boy.
Master Adom Jedia has been diagnosed with a medical condition known as ‘tight hamstring’ for the past three years.
Ms Rachael Ofori, mother of the boy, said she was a single parent whose efforts to raise funds for her son’s surgery had been unsuccessful, adding that, “my son’s health kept getting worse for lack of financial assistance.”
“Barely two months now, I was introduced to TrueCare Ghana to help me take care of my son, and to my surprise, I was not disappointed by them. The NGO has been able to raise the required fund for the surgery. All I can say now is that God richly bless them for their timely intervention,” she said.
Handing over the cheque to officials of the hospital, the Executive Director of TrueCare Ghana, Saint Ofosu Koranteng, disclosed that over the years, the NGO had been soliciting funds to assist patients who could not afford their surgical bills.
“When you take a closer look at the National Health Insurance Scheme, there are many restrictions and limitations to the beneficiaries, such that certain areas are not being covered, especially when it comes to surgeries.
“In this regard, we are stepping in as an NGO to complement the government’s effort to help address the plight of the vulnerable in the country,” Saint Koranteng said.
He explained that TrueCare Ghana was committed to addressing issues related to health, community development and disaster relief.
The Administrator at Focus Orthopedic Hospital, Mrs Vivian Quarshie-Kumasa, who received the cheque on behalf of the hospital applauded the NGO for its swift intervention to save the life of the boy.
She appealed to other corporate organisations, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to support individuals facing similar challenges.
