MP donates funds towards rehabilitation of schools, houses affected by rainstorm

Member of Parliament of Tarkwa- Nsuaem, Mr George Mireku Duker, has presented GH₵ 20,000 towards the rehabilitation of schools and households which were hit by rainstorm, last Monday afternoon.

In addition, he also presented 100 bags of rice, 100 mattresses and 1,000 gas stoves for distribution to the displaced persons

The Tarkwa -Nsuaem Municipal Assembly (TNMA) has also donated 50 packets of roofing sheets towards the repair works.

Presenting the items on Thursday, Mr Duker, also a Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, noted that the Monday rainstorm ripped  roofs of some houses at Dompim and described the situation in the community as “sad and  worrying.”

He was, however, happy that nobody was injured during the incident.

“Education is very important and so, we urgently need all artisans on board to re-roof the Dompim Methodist  Basic School by Friday so that our children can resume full classes. This is our collective responsibility and sacrifices.” Mr Duker added.

He appealed to other institutions including mining companies to support efforts aimed at restoring life at Dompim.

Chief of Dompim, Ohyeawora  Bian Panyin IV, thanked Mr Duker, the TNMA, government  and all who supported the community in this period of distress and assured that rehabilitation works would be begin in earnest, Friday.

“We will not disappoint you. We will work on the Methodist School as soon as possible, indeed, we are ready to sacrifice for this course.” he said.

The headmaster of Dompim Methodist Basic School, Patrick Graham, explained that the roofs on the building were old and weakened for a long time, and that, despite periodic repairs, the roofing sheets were ripped off.”

National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) reports indicated that 600 persons from 165 households were displaced following the rainstorm that hit Dompim,   last Monday.
