LaDMA rehabilitates, constructs two JHSs

Two Junior High School (JHS) buildings have been inaugurated in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly to facilitate teaching and learning.

The schools, South La Estate ‘2’ JHS and La Salem JHS were rehabilitated and constructed at a cost of GH¢ 548,831.00 and GH¢ 1,224,421.00 respectively.

Both buildings have three classrooms, staff common room, and washrooms, among others.

Inaugurating the buildings at separate events in Accra yesterday, the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi, said the projects would open new chapters in the journey of education, empowerment, and progress in the community.

He said the new building replaces the old South La Estate ‘2’ J.H.S which was in a dilapidated state and endangered the lives of pupils.

“I’m glad the commissioning of the block has been made possible because education is the cornerstone of any society’s development and it is the means through which we shape the minds and talents of our youth, equipping them with the tools necessary to steer the challenges of the modern world,” he said.

Mr Nikoi was optimistic that the rehabilitated block would provide a safe and conducive atmosphere for the pupils in the school, saying “With this new facility, we have taken a significant step towards ensuring that our children have access to the best educational resources and conducive environment to learn.”

He said the Assembly would see to it that the school ensured a maintenance culture to make the facility stand the test of time to benefit everyone.

“To the teachers who will educate and inspire the young minds within this block, you have a profound responsibility to take care of the block and all other facilities that have been entrusted into your care to make the investment worthwhile,” he said.

Mr Nikoi commended the teachers for their dedication, passion and guidance that ensured students grow into responsible citizens and future leaders, adding; “Your role in shaping the minds of our youth cannot be overstated, and we are deeply grateful for your service”.

The headmistress of the South La Estate ‘2’ J.H.S, Rasi Andriana Salifu, who could not hide her joy commended the assembly for the gesture and said the building would enable pupils study comfortably thereby promoting quality education.

Mr Ben Debrah, Head of works, LaDMA in sharing the structural defects in the old building said, “We had to remove all the aprons, replace the louvres, the entire roof, among others to provide safe environment for the pupils and teachers”.

“The materials used are different from any other school projects that we witness. It will help them in their routine maintenance so that the school structure can stay for long,” he said.
