IUCG holds matriculation, congregation

The 19th congregation and 24th matriculation of the Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) was last Saturday held in Accra on the theme, ‘Producing Quality Human Capital for National Development in Times of Economic Crises: Challenges and Prospects.’

A total of 222 students graduated of which 113 were male and 109 were female representing 50.9 per cent and 49.1 per cent respectively.

At least 83 students graduated in Bachelor of Business Administration with options in Accounting Marketing, Banking and Finance and Human Resource Management, 71 in Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with options in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising, 39 in Bachelor in Religious Studies and 29 in Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education.

A Member Data Update Officer at Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Alhaji Yussif Baba Suleman, urged the students to apply their knowledge and skills gained from tertiary education to help transform the current economic challenges faced in the country.

He said the world was trending technologically, and required the practical knowledge in addressing challenges in their community, hence the need to contribute their quota to national development.

“The world is more interested in results than hard work, expertise and knowledge, it is one thing to have knowledge and another thing to apply it for life changing results, so for you to achieve this, you must become an expert in an area,” he said.

Alhaji Suleman stated that, IUCG being one of the first private universities in the country, past students of the school were found across the world as Professors in academia, managing directors in corporate institutions and entrepreneurs.

Advising the graduates, he said obtaining a first class honour would not determine their future but ‘the amount of knowledge, skills and experience possessed and the demonstration of your ability to apply these for life changing results to make impacts’ was how they would survive in the future.

“Threats and challenges create creative, innovation and opportunities, be creative in embracing your challenges and do everything legal and ethical to improve upon yourself,” he said.

The President of the IUCG, Dr Ali Arab Khorasani, in his address expressed gratitude to the parents and guardians of the graduating students for supporting them through their four-year stay in the school.

“Today, they can see the fruits that their efforts and prayers have born, they are happy to see their wards well prepared to serve their nation while earning good income,” he said.

He also commended Ghanaian Muslim Community, AI Mustafa International University and Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for their tremendous support to the school.

The Vice President of IUCG, Dr Hussein I. Ibrahim, advised the graduates to improve on their education to ensure a brighter future and not to see the first degree as the end of their educational pursuit.
