Iran Cultural Consular remembers Imam Khomeini

The Iranian Cultural Consular in Ghana on Saturday held a lecture in Accra to commemorate the demise of the leader of the Iranian Revolution, Ayatollah Imam Khomeini, 30 years ago.

Imam Khomeini became the supreme religious leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, after the overthrow of Shah Pahlavi regime.

It was attended by a cross section of the Shia community and friends of the Iran. 

Presenters at the lecture which was on the theme, ‘A critical look at the view point of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini’, extolled the virtues of the Iranian leader for his rejection of tyranny and uphold of equality, justice, peace and love of humanity and freedom for the oppressed people.

The Imam of the Shia Muslim community in Ghana,Sheikh Abubakar Ahmed Kamalu Deen, described Imam Khomeini as a “selfless, humble and exemplary leader” who was an inspiration to the Iranian people and all oppressed people.

He said his leadership qualities that were based on Qu’ran was unsurpassed in the history of Iran, which has helped to transform the society saying that Imam Khomeini practised what he preached and that his legacies was the total transformation of the Iranian society.

Sheikh Kamalu Deen said the late Iranian revolutionary leader exhibited qualities that were worthy of emulation by the contemporary youth, adding that, “Imam Khomeini was able to groom thousands of Khomeini to carry on with the ideals of the revolution such that at his demise no vacuum was created”.

Sheikh Mustapha Kuyateh, a lecturer at the Islamic University College, Ghana, said Imam Khomeini came to uplift the moral standards of society which was in dilemma and to give hope to the youth to aspire to greater heights.

He urged the youth of Ghana to imbibe the qualities of patriotism and selflessness and be dedicated to the cause of national development.

Sheikh Kuyateh said the youth were the bedrock of development and stressed on the  youth taking leadership position to become game changers in society.

The Cultural Consular of the Iranian Embassy in Ghana, Ali Reza Faramarzi, said the Islamic Republic of Iran stood for the principles of mutual respect, tolerance, and non-interference.

The President of Islamic University College, Ghana, Dr Mohsen Maarefi, said Islamic Republic of Iran said for peace, and global stability adding that no one country should claim superiority over the other.
