The Kyidomhene for Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Ampem Darko in the Central Region has admonished parents to invest wisely in their children’s education to secure their future.
According to him, education is the key to success and every parent or guardian must consider it as a topmost priority.
He gave the advice yesterday during the launch of a scholarship scheme, Angel Flap Scholarship Foundation which is aimed at providing free education to needy but brilliant children.
The traditional ruler, who is the chairman for the scholarship scheme, delivering his keynote address, noted that, it was about time brilliant students in the country, the rural areas especially, are identified and supported financially, to fully unleash their potentials.
He cited an 11-year-old boy called Angel Kwame Ankama Arhin, a pupil of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Basic School who emerged the African Champion of the 2021 African International Spelling Bee Competition held in Dubai as an example that children, when given the right opportunities could thrive.
“Every child deserves to be shown love and nurtured well so that their talent can be unearthed and showcased to the rest of the world. It is up to us to guide them and offer them the needed resources to make this possible,” he added.
He revealed that the Angel Flap Scholarship Foundation was an initiative of the young spelling bee champion, Kwame, who was also present at the event.
He indicated that Kwame would soon embark on a tour of the United Kingdom (UK) as part of preparation for the 2023 edition of the World Spelling Bee Competition.
The District Chief Executive(DCE) of the Awutu Senya West, Mr Joseph Aidoo who graced the occasion reiterated that quality education contributed to development, adding that focus on Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) was very necessary in this era of technology and digitisation.
“Education opens the door to jobs, skills and help people to survive and thrive that is why it must be encouraged. Let us build a generation of successful people by supporting the education of our wards. Education is indeed a tool that can be used to alleviate poverty in Ghana and Africa at large.”
“Let us all support initiatives geared towards promoting the education of children,” the DCE added.
He also appealed to the general public to support the Scheme financially so that many children could benefit from it.
