The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) will cut water supply for consumers in the western part of the Greater Accra Region on Monday, September 13, 2021.
The move is to enable the company’s engineers to replace some faulty valves on the main 900mm transmission pipe lines, which impedes water flow and causes serious challenges in the distribution lines.
The company is expected to resume water production on Friday, September 17, 2021.
According to a statement issued in Accra on Monday by the Chief Manager, Public Relations and Communications of GWCL, Stanley Martey, the affected areas would include Weija, Gbawe, Bortianor, Kokrobite, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi.
Other areas are Agege, Korle-Gorno, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokorshie, Mataheko, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Awudome Estates, North Kaneshie, Abeka Lapaz.
The rest are Kwashieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.
The statement explained that there were some leakages also within the supply area, causing GWCL to lose several volumes of water daily and consequently having a serious impact on the volumes available for consumption.
“GWCL engineers will also take advantage of the shutdown to install some electromagnetic meters at the Weija Treatment Plant which will help in the company’s drive to reduce Non-Revenue Water,” it added.
The authorities therefore entreated consumers in the affected areas to store enough water for consumption during the period of the shutdown.
It also promised the company’s commitment in putting in place necessary measures to serve the affected areas so that the impact of the shutdown would not be severe.
In so doing, it assured that water reservoirs would be filled with water tankers to enable consumers fetch while essential service providers like the hospitals and schools would be served with water tankers.
“Management of GWCL wishes to assure the general public, that the necessary equipment, logistics and personnel required to execute the project have been secured and as a result, consumers are assured that, barring any unforeseen predicament, the project must be completed on schedule,” it added.
The statement also assured affected consumers and areas of immediate water supply once the repair works were completed and expressed regret about the development.
