Govt’s record phenomenal – Former Deputy Attorney-General

A former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, has described as phenomenal the record of the government in the last six years.

The private legal practitioner said the government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had shown sufficient character in the development of the country as many sectors of the economy had seen considerable progress.

According to him, government’s unwavering resolve to rolling out programmes targeted at generating prosperity for the suffering masses would be acknowledged by the discerning Ghanaian electorate, and that, the New Patriotic Party(NPP) stood a better chance of ‘breaking the eight’ if the 2024 general elections were going to be fought on track records.

Mr Kpemka, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tempane spoke to the Ghanaian Times on the sidelines in Tempane in the Upper East Region, after he filed his nomination forms to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

He chronicled some achievements of the current administration as building of roads to link up many deprived communities to towns, paving way for the transportation sector to witness a remarkable boost; expansion of educational infrastructure; aggressive tackling of youth unemployment; health infrastructure among others, explaining it was only people with myopic minds who downplayed the efforts of government in its commitment to taking the country to a paradigm shift.

Mr Kpemka told delegates that his development record against the sitting lawmaker, Lydia Akanvariba, was uncontestable, and appealed to them to vote for him in the primaries, so as to enable him to ‘crush’ the incumbent MP whose performance, according to him, had been abysmal so far.

This, he said, would propel him to materialise his desire to make a triumphant return to parliament to finish his unfinished business.

“Since the 2024 presidential election is going to be fought on records between the NDC and NPP, the same will apply to the parliamentary contest. So, it is going to be records between the NDC MP’s record of four years and my record for the four-year term as MP,” Mr Kpemka remarked, amid rousing applause from hundreds of delegates and party sympathisers.

He said he had initiated the execution of a number of road projects in the Tempane District, but was quick to add that a few of them were shelved following his exit from parliament in 2017, after the constituents refused to renew his mandate in the 2016 elections.
